Athlete tickets will be available on Aloud.com from 9.30AM on Friday November 30th
In April 2003, four friends from Deptford in South East London released their debut album, 'Vehicles & Animals', on Parlophone to critical acclaim.
Citing influences such as Grandaddy, The Flaming Lips and Blur, Athlete created a summery, upbeat, quirky indie-pop record full of sing-along choruses that remain firm fan favourites a decade on. A Mercury Music Prize nomination spurred sales of 'Vehicles & Animals' on and it went from silver to gold within two weeks and has long since surpassed platinum status.
Since those early days the band went on to sell more than a million copies of their four studio albums (the other three being 'Tourist', 'Beyond The Neighbourhood' and 'Black Swan'); packed out venues across the land; picked up an Ivor Novello award; and topped the UK's album and airplay charts.
The four members of Athlete are currently focusing on ventures outside of the band but decided that the 10th anniversary of their debut album couldn't pass without celebration.
This short run of UK shows will be their first tour in two years and will see them play the whole of the album including the singles 'You Got The Style', 'Westside', 'Beautiful' and 'El Salvador'. Fans can also expect a selection of other hits such as 'Wires', 'Half Light', 'Superhuman Touch' plus a few surprises.
