Still going strong after taking their first musical steps in New York back in 1987, hip-hop’s almighty trio De La Soul will be hitting the indigO2 stage this December!

The seminal group helped mould a jazzier, more thoughtful and colour-drenched mode of hip-hop -combining whimsically irreverent lyrics, social commentary, light rhythm and laid back rhymes. They have gained respect within and outside the rap community with their contributions to hip-hop – inflecting it with touches of many other genres like jazz, classic funk and psychedelia.

Due to this De La are seen as one of the key groups that scythed the path clear for hip-hop to move from underground thrill to appeal to the masses.

Their 1989 debut album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ was an undeniable smash hit, both commercially and artistically, and was quickly hailed as the future of the genre.

The group’s fertile creativity continued as they went on to release albums ‘Buhloone Mindstate’ in 1993, ‘Stakes Is High’ in 1996, two albums under the ‘Art Official Intelligence’ banner in 2000 and 2001 and then ‘The Grind State’ in 2004. Since then they have collaborated with Gorillaz twice, dropping verses on the mega-hit ‘Feel Good Inc.’ which went on to win a Grammy Award.
