American alternative hip-hop group Gym Class Heroes have been around since 1997 when front man Travie McCoy met drummer Matt McGinley in high school and decided to form a band. Originally from New York, they are renowned for their collaborations with artists from rock, pop-punk and mental bands. The single 'Cupid's Chokehold' which brought them international success most notably featured backing vocals from Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy.
After the release of the band's debut album For The Kids Travie McCoy won MTV's Direct Effect MC Battle and began to make his mark on the music industry.
In 2006 Gym Class Heroes released their gold-selling album As Cruel as Schoolchildren. As well as featuring Patrick Stump, they also collaborated with William Beckett from The Acadamy Is on the single '7 Weeks'. This album signified a shift in sound for the band, with a large focus on the more electronic aspects of music, as they switched their live instrumentation for synthesisers and drum machines.
Following the success of As Cruel as Schoolchildren 2007 was the next pivotal year for Gym Class Heroes, as they won 'Best Group', 'Best New Artist' and 'Ultimate Urban' at the MTV Video Music Awards and the MTV European Music Awards, catapulting them even further into the limelight.
They are set to release their fifth album at the start of 2011, titled The Papercut Chronicles II and will be touring extensively to promote it. This band is not to be missed!
