Detroit based American hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse were created in 1989 by Joseph Bruce and Joseph Utsler, who perform under their aliases of the ‘Wicked Clowns’ Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope. Originally known as Inner City Posse, they perform their own version of hardcore hip-hop known as ‘horrorcore’ and are renowned for their elaborate live performances. The ‘Wicked Clowns’ will undoubtedly always put on a spectacular performance for their audiences.

In order to distinguish themselves stylistically, they introduced supernatural and horror themed lyrics. The songs of Insane Clown Posse are largely based on the mythology of the Dark Carnival, a metaphoric limbo in which the lives of the dead are judged by God. According to the duo this Dark Carnival has produced a range of stories called ‘Joker’s Cards’ that will each provide a lesson to help change the ‘evil ways of listeners before the end consumes us all.’

They have worked on many collaborations with well known hip-hop and rock musicians and have been at the forefront of the hip-hop scene for over 20 years.

As well as focusing on their music, Insane Clown Posse founded independent record label Psychopathic Records with Alex Abbiss as a manager, they also produced and starred in feature films Big Money Hustlas and Big Money Rustlas.

Sticking with their wrestling roots they also formed their own federation, Juggalo Championship Wrestling. With their new album The Mighty Death Pop! to be released in 2011, this band are well worth seeing.
