Jamiroquai actually began in 1992 after front man Jay Kay unsuccessfully auditioned to be a singer in the Brand New Heavies. With the decision that he would then go ahead and start his own band, jazz funk group Jamiroquai was launched. Over the years they have sold more than 25 million albums worldwide and have received many awards and accolades.

The six piece band has had many line-up alterations, however the current members are Jay Kay, Derrick McKenzie, Rob Harris, Paul Turner, Matt Johnson and Sola Akingbola.
The band have won many awards, with 1997 being an excellent year for them in terms of accolades - they took home a Grammy and four MTV Video Music Awards for 'Virtual Insanity'.
Jamiroquai released its first single 'When You Gonna Learn' in 1992, which was instantly a hit with fans and resulted in a million pound eight-album deal with Sony BMG Music Entertainment. All eight of these albums were certified platinum in the UK, with the 1996 album Travelling Without Moving reaching triple platinum status while A Funk Odyssey (2001) and the greatest hits album High Times: Singles 1992-2006 (2006) hit double platinum. Worldwide recognition came with the release of Travelling Without Moving which included hit singles Virtual Insanity and Cosmic Girl.
