Mogwai, originally from Glasgow, Scotland are rock veterans, forming in 1995 and slotting nicely into the post-rock category with their focus being largely on instrumental compositions. The five-piece typically compose lengthy guitar based tracks, usually involving an elaboration of a single theme, with heavy distortion, effects and a melodic bass line to get their subtle, atmospheric message across.

Their debut album Mogwai Young Team was described as ‘stunningly dynamic’ and became a good shape of things to come. With the release of their third album in 2001 Rock Action came their highest ever chart ranking, reaching 23 in the UK Album Chart.

Preferring to stay out of the mainstream and media, Mogwai have still managed to create a dedicated following. Their tours have been described as epic, atmospheric and are always popular with their fans that come from far and wide to see them play. They have been likened to bands such as The Cure and The Pixies and in 2004 supported both on tour.

Mogwai also brought out a new album on 14 February 2011, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will and will be performing a few European dates to look forward to this year. Playing in Hamburg and Berlin at the end of March they will then follow this by appearing at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona in May. With a further gig in Glasgow on 22 December there will be no excuse to miss out on this epic band!
