Formed in Oklahoma in 1983, The Flaming Lips have definitely been around long enough to know exactly what their fans want and what sounds great. The American neo-psychedelic band is known for its bizarre song titles with names such as ‘Worm Mountain’, ‘This Here Giraffe’ and the single ‘She Don’t Use Jelly’ which catapulted them to fame in the early 90s.
In 2002 Q magazine names The Flaming Lips one of the ‘50 Bands to See Before You Die’, this is largely down to their elaborate live shows which are famed for the elaborate costumes, balloons, puppets, video projections, complex stage light configurations, confetti and front man Wayne Coyne’s man-sized plastic bubble in which he crowd surfs. Their catchy melodies, carefully manipulated beats and philosophical lyrics have ensured this band to be a firm favourite in the music industry for over 25 years.
