Formed in Oklahoma in 1983, The Flaming Lips have definitely been around long enough to know exactly what their fans want and what sounds great. In 2002 Q magazine names The Flaming Lips one of the ‘50 Bands to See Before You Die’, this is largely down to their elaborate live shows which are famed for the elaborate costumes, balloons, puppets, video projections, complex stage light configurations, confetti and front man Wayne Coyne’s man-sized plastic bubble in which he crowd surfs. Their catchy melodies, carefully manipulated beats and philosophical lyrics have ensured this band to be a firm favourite in the music industry for over 25 years.

In July 2011 The Flaming Lips will be coming over to the UK to perform their most influential album The Soft Bulletin in full. In 1999, the time of its release, NME named it ‘Album of the Year’.
