Magic at the Musicals returns for 2024. More shows now added!
Magic at the Musicals returns to the Royal Albert Hall in 2024 as we celebrate the best in musical theatre with a sparkling evening of performances from leading cast members and the most iconic shows from the West End and beyond.
This year’s event takes place on Sunday 22nd September with the first five acts announced as An Officer and a Gentleman The Musical, Hadestown, Mamma Mia!, SIX the musical and Tina – The Tina Turner Musical. It was revealed on Magic Radio Breakfast this week that also joining the event would be the smash hit musicals Dear Evan Hansen, Disney’s ALADDIN, Disney’s THE LION KING and Hairspray. We are also thrilled to confirm that west-end star and Magic at the Musicals radio presenter Ruthie Henshall will be returning as host for the event alongside comedian and presenter Jason Manford.

Hadestown

Hairspray
After breaking box office records and delighting audiences in the West End, on Broadway and on the big screen since 1988, the timeless story of Hairspray centres around heroine Tracy Turnblad, who has big hair, a big heart, and big dreams to dance her way onto national TV, and into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. When Tracy becomes a local star, she is able to use her newfound fame to fight for liberation, tolerance, and interracial unity in Baltimore. But can she win equality – and Link’s heart – without denting her ’do?
Hairspray is a musical based on the 1988 film of the same name which starred Divine and Ricki Lake by cult filmmaker John Waters. With music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman Marc Shaiman and book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, the stage production of Hairspray originally opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 2002 and subsequently won eight Tony Awards. The production opened in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007 and won four Olivier Awards including Best New Musical. Proving to be an international success, Hairspray has also played in South Africa, Japan, South Korea, China and Dubai. Following the musical’s phenomenal success on stage, a film of the musical was released in 2007 which starred John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and James Marsden.
Mamma Mia!
Since premiering in London in 1999, the irresistible feel good musical MAMMA MIA! has captured the hearts of millions around the globe. The sunny, funny tale of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads on a Greek island idyll, all unfolding to the magic of ABBA’s timeless pop masterpieces, has now been seen live on stage by over 65 million people across the world and turned into two record-breaking movies – MAMMA MIA! To date, MAMMA MIA! has been seen in 50 productions in 16 different languages grossing more than $4 billion at the box office. Tina – The Tina Turner Musical
TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL which is based on the life of legendary artist Tina Turner and was produced in association with Tina Turner herself, has been running at the Aldwych Theatre in the West End for over 5 years and is a global success with 8 productions having opened worldwide since 2018. Developed in London together with Tina Turner, the critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in April 2018 and has subsequently broken all Box Office records at the Aldwych Theatre.
